To create a budget, just click on the Gear, Budgeting under Tools header, and start answering mini interview questions. You can create a budget within QuickBooks Online either by Class, Location or Customer, but not by two or all three. The budgets are designed to subdivide by only one category per budget.
How to create a subdivided budget:
Choose Gear, under lists, choose Budgeting.
You can choose enter Actual Amounts from Last Year or This Year, No Amounts, or Copy a Budget. Click Next.
You can choose to Subdivide (or not subdivide) by one of the following:
Location ( may also be called Business, Department, Division, Property, Store, Territory)
Classes
Customer (may also be called Client, Donor, Guest, Member, Patient, Tenant)
Click Next.
Select the fiscal year to track budget for and Budget name.
Click Finish.
