What is the difference between Inventory quantity on hand and quantity available in QuickBooks? Is this feature available in QuickBooks Online?
First of all, “Quantity Available” option is currently not available in QuickBooks Online.
The Inventory “Quantity on Hand” in QuickBooks is the quantity of ‘actual inventory’ physically still stored in a specific warehouse. The Inventory “Quantity Available” on hand is computed by subtracting the quantities on customer sales orders from the on-hand quantity. It will also subtract inventory from assemblies.
So in summary, Inventory “Quantity Available” = Quantity on Hand – On Sales Orders – For Assemblies. This will not take into account of Purchase Order (Inventory on Order).

Unfortunately, Sales Order feature is not available in QuickBooks Online. They do have Estimates function but it’s not exactly the same. But even with that, they don’t subtract anything from Estimates. In summary, “Quantity Available” function available in QB Desktop is not available in QuickBooks Online.
Hope this helps!
